Concept 2 - Defining a Case Manager

The second concept that is fundamental to DCAM and to using Danic Tools is our perception of the function of a "Case Manager". DCAM establishes a clear distinction between the treatment function and the case management function. While, in some organizations, both functions may be performed by the same person, we still treat them as separate and distinct functions.

In DCAM the function of the Case Manager is to oversee, direct and manage a treatment or service plan for and with the client. The function of the treatment provider is to deliver the therapy, treatment or counseling.

A person whose function is "Case Manager" in Danic Tools is assigned at the client level. The function of "Treatment Provider" or "Staff" member is assigned at the case level. Since, in DCAM, we have already separated these two concepts, a Case Manager can easily oversee the whole treatment plan and assign its various parts (Cases) to a number of different treatment providers simultaneously.
